Where Can You Build A Container Home

My name’s Jeb And I’m going to show you how I built this Neato! Let’s take a quick look at our awesome design we have Basically it’s a storage tote And on top of the tote there’s the lid And into the lid I’m going to drill two holes Where I’ll put two net cups to hold the plants And then drilled into the tote and above the tote Is a PVC frame Which is going to hold up the Agribon And there will also be a central support pole To help support the plants as well.

And lastly I’ll have a water level indicator I’m going to be using this for hydroponics, so just want to see if its running dry And this is what I’m going to be using Of course, a longer pole This is schedule fourty PVC Half inch, so it’s readily available And when I got these tubs I was hoping I could use this hole they have For the padlock You know Just push a pole through it And that’s actually a half inch wide But half inch schedule 40 Is half inch in the middle.

And the outside is somewhere between 78 and 1316 diameter So 78 is kind of a smooth, you know There’s a little give, so you can slide it in easily So I’m going to drill that with a spade bit And you could try to use part of the hole If you have a hole But I’m just going to put about right there And I just have a piece of scrap wood under here To help it drill This spade bit is designed for wood Not for plastic But it seems like it cuts the holes pretty well.

How to build a mini hoop house plant container

Drilling So it takes a while Because I’m not pushing too hard I want it to cut through the plastic You know it’s got these bits, it’s kind of designed to fit through wood So uh raindrops But the hole’s pretty clean And I’m now in my shed Because it’s raining 85 degrees out here and it’s got to rain Awesome! Roger, you’re getting rained on! And here’s our holes One in each corner, nice and clean And the sky’s the limit! This is 10 foot schedule 40 And so I’m going to need to cut that.

The issue is how high, right So it could be as high as you want But I want to use one piece of Agribon fabric Which is 83 inches wide I don’t want any seams or that kind of thing So I’m going to cut these So that they make kind of an arch And I’ll have to do a little fancy math thunder I guess that’s thunder, OK Alright, so we’ll go inside just a little Because, you know Does lightning like that OK, thunder seems to be done for now.

And the magic number is 49 inches I’ve marked it right here with a sharpie marker And I’ll let you know later how I got to arrive at that number And I’m going to use a ratcheting PVC tool To cut this, which gets you a nice clean cut This thing is, i dont know, 14 bucks at Home Depot And to cut PVC You know It cuts pretty easy You can use a saw You can use something like this On my first project I used garden clippers! And the cut was a little jagged, but it worked.

But you are going cut any PVC, get one of these It’s worth it to get a nice clean cut And the nice thing is you can just position it Right over your mark ing And there’s our cut Nice and clean So I just got to make 4 more of those And then this excess in the middle Here’s our other mark This excess we can use To make the cross beams and things OK, so there we go, we got our four support pieces But we are going to need a hole in the center.

Because we are going to have a support piece go right through the center And that will help strengthen the center Of course it will be longer than this, right It will be up here with the rest of them And also that will make it easier for taller plants They can be attached to climb up next to this center support So let’s drill that hole drilling And we don’t have a perfectly clean hole But click we should be able to clean that up Clean it up with a knife.

And this would work a lot better if I had two hands free But what are you going to do Alright Perfecto! Ok so I’m going to cut another piece clearly So here you can see the structure starting to come together And these side pieces Are under some tension Now you need to make sure they are socked on real tight I’m not gluing these, it hasn’t seemed necessary in the past Yeah for that one But the thing I did find is The pipe has a There’s a force that wants to launch this thing.

Right up in the air And then there’s also the grip of the connector That keeps it in So you need make sure it’s pushed down real hard And you’ll find out, you know if not Because the thing will fly up 10 feet in the air So this center pipe I have 48 inches long Which is just a little too tall but I can cut off It’s easier to cut off a little bit than to make a new pipe And we’ll have a T connector This will have T connector on it.

Alright And we just need the missing pieces And then you can see this Will have a little bit of arch too it But probably want to come down I don’t know, I’ll measure it Start with an inch And cut two little pieces to go into the gaps here And our frame will be finished So there’s our completed frame And the center piece I just trimmed down until it just had a mild Well it’s relatively level But I didn’t want it to sink here Because in very wet weather.

I’ll put a tarp or clear plastic over this And I don’t want to have a, you know, spot for it to buckle Or that kind of thing And it’s going to end up getting covered in Agribon fabric Here’s one that’s already covered So that’s the final result there So from here we’ll just We are going to drill some holes for the plants to come out of And of course the key for cutting plastic with a hole saw Once you get to this point, it’s just bitten in.

And then I reverse the drill So you can get a nice smooth cut drilling And I can just clean that up with a knife So here it is with the holes drilled And if you wanted to you could just put some drainage holes in the bottom Fill it up with soil And you’d have a nice little regular planter I’m going to use this for outdoor hydroponics So it’s going to be full of water And I’m going to put a fill hole I’m going to put that in about right there.

And that fill hole could be used if you were turning this into a wicking bed too So here it is, filled with nutrient solution The water level indicator Is a bust clunk The PVC is just too heavy It doesn’t float So have to find something else to float in there I don’t know exactly what to use I don’t really want to use like a wooden dowel That’s going to soak up the stuff and be funky We’ll see, figure something out And this for Kratky, if you are starting new plants.

I think you can see in this light You would want your water just to be A quarter inch up the net cup Which for this is about 22 gallons I have in 20 gallons because I’m putting in mature transplants From my failed hoop house This isn’t Agribon This is Garden Supply whatever from Amazon And hopefully the Agribon is more durable But I do have a broccoli that I want to transplant in here I’ll give you a peek of it So that’s mature so I want some airspace in there under the net cup.

And I’m going to get my Agribon attached on here I’ll attach it like we attached this one and we’ll get our plants in And here’s the finished product You can see here how I attached it, I’m still figuring out the best way to attach this I have two of these bungee cords These are the adjustable ones from Home Depot And I’ve realized using this one over here The wind is strong enough, it will blow out right here in the center So I’ve just added a wide paper clip.

I’m hoping that doesn’t tear out right at the corners I wanted to avoid clips But we’ll see how it goes If anyone knows a better way how to attach Agribon to something like that Well, let me know And let’s take just a peek inside at the plants And here it is opened up We’ve got a lettuce that’s just trying to bolt It’s been super hot here And we’ve got a broccoli because why not We’ll have to see how this goes, we could always have bugs come in through these holes.

I may have to cover these up with just duct tape If bugs are getting in The tote was eight dollars that was the cheapest thing It’s about ten dollars worth of PVC Bungee cords were four dollars The paper clips were a ripoff at Target So those were $1.50 I’m sure you could get them cheaper at somewhere else Nine feet of Agribond $5.50, total cost was $29 But if it can keep the bugs off I can truly set it and forget it And just come back and harvest the food when it’s ready.

And usually I would have a lettuce in there for a tote of that large size But that’s what I happen to have You use this larger one, it’s a 27 gallon tote For kale, broccoli Heck maybe someday cucumbers and tomatoes, we’ll find out And we’ll see if we can find a way to Have a good float here I just want to know if the water level gets low So I came up with a solution Well, I was recommended a solution for my float I got a wine cork.

And this is a bamboo skewer And then it’s just got some electrical tape so we have contrast And when it’s all the way down I shortened this guide pipe here When it’s all the way down The thing’s empty And right now we can see we got lots of water in the container So here’s the easy way to see how long Your pipe needs to be, this pipe right here And all you need to know is, right How far below This area, how long is that going to be.

Based on how much gap you want right here So here I wanted eight inches So that I would have, you know, six or seven inches overlap And then eight inches plus half of the width of the fabric Which is 83 inches So 83 inches Cut out an inch because you’ve got this top piece So that’s 82 inches That means this length here is 41 To there Plus eight 49 inches So clearly if you don’t have your thing built yet You just need to the math in your head.
